The newest edition of Guinness World Records has been replenished by a magnetic record holder – the fastest tortoise.
The tortoise Bertie made people forget about the term “slow as a turtle”. He proved that turtles are not the slowest animals in the world, but vice versa, they can be very fast.
Male tortoise, named Bertie, who lives in the United Kingdom, is capable of accelerating to 0.28 meters per second, and that’s about one kilometer per hour. The video on YouTube shows that measurement of the speed Bertie was able to overcome 5.48 meters in 19.59 seconds. The record was achieved in June 2014. He has updated the previous record holding since 1977. Then another turtle Charlie was able to develop a speed of up to 0.125 meters per second.
The world fastest tortoise Bertie lives in Marco and Janine Calzini family in the County Durham in the North East England. They are the owners of the amusement park Adventure Valley. Bertie has a girlfriend named Shelly that is also living in Calzini family. Mark and Janine told that they had allocated a separate luxurious place for their record-breaking pet and his girlfriend. They both like to eat strawberry and to entertain the visitors of the park.
The owners noted that Bertie has always moved faster than the other turtles. The couple accidentally learned about the existing record of turtle Charlie and filed an application to the Guinness World Records. Marco told that he had been collecting all Guinness World Records books since his childhood. He bought the first one in 1980 and now he still remembers all of those books, which stood on the shelves. Marco has always been dreaming of getting to the pages of this book and the dream came true. Since Bertie has achieved the world record, he became a local celebrity and lots of people now are coming to see him and Shelly.
