In a society that now considers self-absorbed narcissistic and neurotic behavior heroic, it’s gratifying to know that there are individuals who understand the true meaning of hero.
No doubt the rabid left along with the Hollywood elites have redefined that term to encompass a mishmash of self-aggrandized confused and troubled individuals into what was once a revered category reserved only for those true heroes, who gave of themselves for the benefit of others.
Now Caitlyn Jenner is apparently considered a hero or a heroine depending on “before” or “after.” Obviously, no one should make light of someone’s personal demons, whether real or imagined, certainly few of us would want to walk in her shoes.
However honoring Jenner’s “incredible courage” with the “Arthur Ashe Courage Award” hosted by ESPN actually does a disservice to the memory of Arthur Ashe. Who died of complications at 49, due to contracting the AIDS virus through a blood transfusion during heart –bypass surgery.
There are obviously more courageous athletes deserving of the award like Lauren Hill, a basketball player and survivor of brain cancer who inspired millions of people around the world with her strength.
Moreover, the Reverend Franklin Graham took note of ESPN’s odd choice and posted his thoughts on Facebook.
“Caitlyn Jenner is being honored with the ESPN ESPY Award for courage? I find this hard to swallow after spending time with wounded military veterans and their spouses with Operation Heal Our Patriots—they are true heroes and their lives done courage. Some have had 30 or 40 surgeries, not to change their gender, but to try to put their bodies back together after defending our country.”
Reverend Graham continued: And to recognize the very confused Caitlyn Jenner as a hero before the entire world? Give me a break. If you want an example of real courage, it’s when Jesus Christ willingly allowed Himself to become your sin and died in your place on the cross—the Righteous One for the unrighteous.”
