PodRide is a brilliant idea designed by the Swedish engineer Mikael Kjellman, who wanted to ride his bike to work every day, even during the cold winter months.
The PodRide has four wheels but still fits in the bicycle lanes, so it’s easy to use in city traffic. The body of the Velomobile is entirely waterproof, and it was designed with comfort in mind so that the user will have the same posture as in a small car. It also has air suspension and the seat provides back support, which makes it practical and also comfortable to ride.
The bicycle car is classified as an e-bike, which means that a driver’s license in most countries will not be necessary to use it in the streets. It has a 250W electric motor and can reach a maximum speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph). The autonomy of the PodRide with a single charge is around 60 km (37 miles), and it is extremely friendly to the environment, with a Co2 emission of 7g/km.
A nice feature of the PodRide is the small trunk in the back of the vehicle, ideal for grocery bags or laptop bags. The vehicle is also ideal for parents since it has a tow bar which allows attaching a child carrier to the PodRide. For safety reasons, the PodRide also has headlights and indicators, which make it safe for driving at night.
This new and innovative way of transportation is great on a rainy day, when a standard bike can’t be used. The PodRide can be utilized in any weather, and it was successfully tested even during a Swedish winter. It has a heated windshield and studded tires for winter, and it allows for turns in narrow places, where a car would not fit. During hot summer days, the front window and the side windows can be opened for better ventilation.
