FBI Director, Mark Comey, has been spotted going to the White House this Friday. Rumours abound as to whether or not this might be the finish for what used to be a distinguished track record. Since revelations about Comey’s political bias in the election, his refusal to admit that Donald Trump was under surveillance (even though other departments have openly stated it), and his clear contempt for bipartisan fairness have come to light, the Director must feel he walking on very thin ice.
Whilst stability in government agencies is of key importance to the proper continued governance of a nation, the agencies have a responsibility to serve the elected President in good faith, regardless of their personal opinions. They gain their authority through the consent of the American people, as does the President, if they are actively working against the President, they are actively working against the people’s wishes.
In other reports, there is a lot of chatter that Trey Gowdey might be taking the reins of the FBI when his present position finishes in 2018. Gowdey has a good record of being honest and fighting for causes. Perhaps he can return dignity back to a once great FBI?
The only question is whether rump should accept a resignation, or just tell him”You’re Fired”.
