A Washington man was staying in his Vancouver motel room, when the evening was pierced by the cries and screams of a toddler.
Don Gilbert grabbed a baseball bat, that he kept nearby, raced outside, and was horrified by what he saw.
According to KPTV, 32-year-old Kyle Holder had his 2-year-old child in the motel parking lot, and was kicking and beating her.
Witnesses claim that the man was slamming his toddler down on the pavement, and at one point, tried to stomp on her head.
Gilbert said that when he saw what was happening, without thinking, he ran up to the thug and struck him across the back of the head with the baseball bat.
“He took her to the curb and just slammed her down, and that’s when I cracked him in the skull three or four times.”
When officers arrived, Holder was still out of control, and they attempted to taser him to get him to stop.
“He was just babbling about God’s coming for everyone and he’s got to get the evil out of his daughter.”
According to court documents, Holder told deputies that he didn’t want to kill his daughter, but that he was trying to accomplish something else.
“I did not want to kill her, but I had to. I had to hold my daughter and crush her head so she could go up to the sky.”
The 2-year-old girl was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is in critical condition and her father will be facing first-degree attempted murder charges.
The man whose intervention may have just saved the toddlers life, said that the attack suggested a sad reflection on society in general.
“If more people took time to care less about themselves and more about innocent people, we wouldn’t have the crap going on in the world we do now.”
